McCarty looks for strong performance in Tour of Utah

Pat McCarty  is hoping to have a strong ride at this week's UCI 2.1 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah on August 9-14 in Salt Lake City. He was off to a good start at the uphill prologue in which he placed 11th behind a short list of world-class talents.

Evans welcomed home in Melbourne


Cadel Evans has arrived back home in Australia, following his Tour de France victory last month. The BMC rider touched down in Melbourne this morning ahead of a celebratory parade in his honour through the southern capital on Friday.
Evans, and his wife Chiara Passerini was greeted by a throng of media and several VIPs including federal Sports Minister Mark Arbib, Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu and Qantas executive Ken Ryan.

Peiper joins Garmin-Cervelo for 2012


Allan Peiper will join Garmin-Cervelo for 2012. The Australian, who has been an instrumental part of HTC-Highroad's success over the last few years, is a former professional rider and joins on a two-year deal. Next season he will base himself in Girona, Spain, where Garmin has their European headquarters.

Gretsch earns most aggressive jersey after Utah time trial


Patrick Gretsch (HTC-Highroad) pulled on the most aggressive rider’s jersey after a respectable third place during the stage three time trial at the Tour of Utah on Friday. The German time trial specialist held the fastest time of the day until virtually the end, when his time of 17:43 was surpassed by teammate and stage winner Tejay van Garderen and runner up Levi Leipheimer (RadioShack).

Moncoutié to continue in 2012?


Fresh from taking overall victory at the Tour de l’Ain on Saturday, David Moncoutie (Cofidis) has hinted that he is likely to continue his career for another season, having previously suggested that 2011 would be his last year in the professional ranks.

Cheula wins aggressive rider award at Utah finale


Giampaolo Cheula (GEOX-TMC) won the Most Aggressive Rider jersey after initiating a decisive solo breakaway during the 'queen' stage five finale at the Tour of Utah on Sunday. His team's two-week stint in the US has come to an end and rider will return overseas for the final block of European racing.

France and Great Britain in better position for Worlds

Every national federation was expecting the UCI World rankings published by August 15. That was indeed the deadline to know how many riders can compose a national team in the Roadworld Championships, from 19 to 25 September in Copenhagen.

The official teams selections will now be available August 17, but according to Cyclingnews' calculations, three major countries will have more riders in the World Champs than last year: Great Britain, France and Luxembourg.
